New Parliament Building of India #UPSC
Recently, Minister of State Housing and Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri announced that, a new Parliament Building will come up in next 5 years by the year 2024.
Parliament Building of India is in Delhi, India. Delhi is the Capital of India. Parliament Building was known as House of Parliament and designed by chief architects Sir Edwin Lutyens and Sir Herbert Baker in 1912. Construction of Parliament Building was started in the year 1921, and was completed by the year 1927. Infrastructure of present Parliament Building was inspired by a Mandir called Chausath Yogini Mandir, Mitali, Morena.
➣What is the need to make new Parliament building?
Because present Parliament Building is around 92 years old and space is also less in this building (around 800 MPs), present number of seats is 543 in building but, this will increase and number of seats is bound to rise till 2026, Earthquake Safety issues does not follow norms of safety while building, Parking issues and north south blocks are over 100 years ago.
There are semi circular halls and three chambers in Parliament Building-
