Why PLUTO is not considered as a Planet?
We have studied that there are total 8 planets in our solar system-
PLUTO
Pluto was discovered by a scientist named Clyde Tombaugh in 1930. Pluto is a dwarf(small) planet it is found in Kuiper Belt(a ring of bodies beyond Neptune). It was the first Kuiper Belt object discovered. Pluto it is the largest known Plutoid(ice dwarf).
According to IAU(International Astronomical Union) PLUTO is not the only dwarf planet, there are 5 other dwarf bodies-
- Ceres(1801)
- Pluto(1930)
- Eris(2005)
- Makemake(2005)
- Haumea(2004)
Definition of a Planet
Definition of Planet is defined by the IAU(International Astronomical Union). Here, Professional PhD level astronomers work. IAU(International Astronomical Union) headquarter is in Paris, France. India is the member of this Union. Any large object can be defined as a planet if it has these 3 points-
- Have enough gravity to pull itself into a more or less Spherical shape,
- Have cleared pretty much everything else out of its orbital path and
- It has to orbit the SUN.
↦Pluto does have these points, that's why Pluto is not considered as a PLANET.
➢What if we consider Pluto as a planet?
➣There are many other dwarf planets then we have to consider other dwarf planets also a complete Planet. Some studies found its the largest object. There are many other large objects like Eris, Houmia, Makemake and various other objects found beyond Neptune.
